Certification

The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine assigns this live activity a maximum of 24.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. English sessions total 12.75 CME credits.

Dr. Jaime Davidson is a distinguished Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, United States, and Honorary Professor at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. In addition, he is a Master's Professor in Diabetes at the Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru, and an Advisor in the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases section of the FDA in Dallas, United States.

Graduated with honors from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Dr. Davidson completed his training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at renowned institutions such as Scott & White Memorial Hospital (Texas A&M) and Indiana University School of Medicine. With an outstanding academic career, he has held leadership positions in hospitals and has contributed to public health initiatives, standing out for his work in the field of diabetes and endocrinology. His commitment and dedication have been recognized with numerous awards and distinctions, establishing him as a prominent figure in his field internationally.

Dr. Mark Jara is a leading specialist in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, with a solid academic background and experience in various renowned institutions. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University at Buffalo and completed his Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism fellowship at the UM-JMH Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in 2018. He graduated from the National University School of Medical Sciences. Asunción, where he earned his medical degree in 2010. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, as well as Internal Medicine. His experience and dedication have established him as a highly qualified professional in his field.

Dr. Andrew Blakely is a Surgical Oncologist specializing in peritoneal surface malignancies and soft tissue sarcomas. His research focuses on characterizing differences in gastrointestinal stromal tumors and peritoneal mesothelioma between and within patients, as well as evaluating the effects of standard chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatment strategies. He is also involved in the exploration and validation of fluorescent imaging to guide oncologic surgery. His areas of expertise include gastrointestinal stromal tumors, peritoneal mesothelioma, and intraoperative assessment of tumor burden and completeness of cytoreduction.

Dr. Antonio Bianco is a physician-scientist and author in the field of thyroid research. He earned his medical degree from the Santa Casa School of Medicine and his PhD in Human Physiology from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University of São Paulo (ICB-USP) in Brazil. Dr. Bianco has published extensively on the metabolism and action of thyroid hormones, with important implications for the treatment of patients with hypothyroidism. His research has focused on how T3 initiates or terminates critical biological processes while maintaining relatively stable plasma levels.

Dr. Bianco’s work has been recognized with numerous awards, and he has been elected to several prestigious professional societies. He has served on NIH study sections and on the NIDDK Board of Scientific Counselors. He previously held leadership roles such as Chief of Endocrinology at the University of Miami and at Rush University, where he also served as President of the Medical Practice. In 2016, he was elected President of the American Thyroid Association.

He currently serves as Dean (ad interim) of the John Sealy School of Medicine, Chief Research Officer, and holds the Nelda C. and H. J. Lutcher Stark Professorship in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch, USA.

Dr. Eduardo Sánchez is the Chief Medical Officer for Prevention at the American Heart Association (AHA), where he leads the COVID-19 initiatives and the KnowDiabetesbyHeart™ program. Prior to joining the AHA, he served as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, and as Director of the Institute for Health Policy at the University of Texas. He was also Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, where he led responses to crises such as SARS, flu vaccine shortages, and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Dr. Sánchez is a board-certified family physician and holds multiple degrees in biomedical engineering, chemistry, medicine, and public health.

Dr. Francisco Pasquel is a prominent endocrinologist and epidemiologist specializing in diabetes and metabolism-related technology. As Co-Director of the NIH-Funded Regional Center at the Georgia Center for Diabetes Translation Research (GCDTR) and Associate Professor of Medicine at Emory University, his work focuses on research projects related to diabetes and cardiovascular disease. His current research includes characterizing metabolic profiles in patients with cardiac disease under stress, leveraging technology for remote care, and addressing cardiovascular disease in high-risk patients.

Dr. Ingrid Libman is a Professor in the Division of Endocrinology and Director of the Diabetes Program at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Epidemiology at the Pitt Graduate School of Public Health. Her research focuses on the etiology, prediction, prevention, and management of diabetes in childhood, with a particular emphasis on population-based epidemiology and clinical research. She has led national and international multicenter studies, including a clinical trial on the use of metformin in adolescents with type 1 diabetes. Additionally, she has held significant roles in organizations such as the American Diabetes Association and the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes, reflecting her strong commitment to service at both national and international levels.

Dr. Jaydira Del Rivero is a physician-scientist in the Developmental Therapeutics Branch, serving as Principal Investigator of the Natural History Study for Neuroendocrine Neoplasms and Adrenocortical Cancer. Her work focuses on laying the foundation for the development of therapeutic interventions, prevention/detection guidelines, and outcome measures for future clinical trials. She specializes in the development of innovative treatment approaches and targeted therapies for endocrine malignancies, including advanced gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, adrenocortical cancer, and pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma.

Dr. Laura Boucai is a board-certified endocrinologist and internist who specializes in the care of patients with thyroid cancer. At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), she is part of a multidisciplinary team of experts—including surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, and medical oncologists—providing comprehensive, personalized care to individuals with thyroid disease. Her goal is to enhance and advance the care of people with thyroid cancer by tailoring surgical and medical treatment options to each patient. As an endocrinologist, Dr. Boucai specializes in disorders affecting the glands and organs that produce hormones, such as diabetes, infertility, and thyroid, adrenal, and pituitary conditions.

Dr. María Delgado-Lelievre is a hypertension specialist at the University of Miami. As Founder and Director of the Comprehensive Hypertension Center, the first in Florida certified by the American Heart Association (AHA), she leads innovative treatments that have been recognized with the prestigious 2023 Gold Plus award from the AHA. Certified by the AHA, she completed her training at the University of Michigan and the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial. Originally from Venezuela, her dedication goes beyond the office, participating in national initiatives such as the AHA Science Committee and the National Hypertension Control Roundtable. Her commitment to the community is reflected in her welcome of patients for rapid assessments and virtual consultations, demonstrating her commitment to comprehensive, accessible hypertension care and cardiovascular prevention.

Dr. Violet Lagari is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She also serves as the Associate Director of the Endocrinology Fellowship Program. Her clinical and research interests focus on metabolic bone diseases, and she has published extensively in these areas. In 2012, she received the Young Investigator Award from the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research. Dr. Lagari leads the bone curriculum for fellows, which includes the bone lecture series, DXA interpretation training, and both inpatient and outpatient consult services at the Miami VA. She currently serves as Chief of the Endocrinology Section at the Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare System.
